Known far and wide for a broad variety of flavors, Oliva Cigars is a long-time staple in the smoking industry. From connoisseurs seeking a full, rich smoke, to novices wanting a mild experience, Oliva offers something for everyone. Honoring its noteworthy history, the company continues to make up to 16 million cigars each year. Every single stick is hand-rolled and quality checked for the best encounter. With recognitions such as Cigar of the Year by Cigar Aficionado Magazine, every single light tastes and feels as good as the first.
History of the Oliva Cigars Family
Way back in 1886, Melanio Oliva became the first in a long line of tobacco growers in his family. He operated his first farm in Pinar Del Rio, Cuba, taking a break to fight in the Cuban War of Independence. By the mid-1920s, his heir Facundo Oliva took over production. Facundo continued to run the farm for decades, only changing the business plan significantly after the Communists took over Cuba.
By the 1960s, Melanio's grandson Gilberto Oliva was traveling the world searching for the right conditions to replace that rich Cuban soil. He also began acting largely as a broker, providing him with great experience sampling the wide variety of tobacco possibilities. In the mid-1990s, Gilberto and Gilberto, Jr settled in Nicaragua and opened Oliva Cigar Co. The company was purchased two decades later by J. Cortès Cigars N.V.
Oliva Cigars is a youngish company built on a century of experience growing and rolling the highest quality leaves. They know how to create great smoking encounters for nearly any taste.
