The beginning of the 1990s found Rocky Patel working in Los Angeles as an attorney focused on entertainment and product liability. As fate would have it, one day a friend introduced him to cigars, and he fell in love. Becoming a founding member of the Grand Havana Club in Los Angeles, he was approached with the idea of producing his own brand of cigars. Shaking off his fears and doubts, he launched the Indian Tabac Cigar Company to a willing market.

As seasoned cigar smokers will remember, the 1990s saw a significant boom in popularity. Despite the warnings from friends and colleagues, Patel was determined to realize his vision. As a small business fighting through a market crowded with multimillion-dollar companies, he knew that only bold action would result in success. It was at a Retail Tobacco Dealers of America conference in 1996 that he first began to see the potential of his idea. Hundreds of people lined up to try the new defiant flavors in more vibrant packaging.

As the 1990s cigar boom wound to a close, Patel had survived due to his stubborn refusal to settle for second best. Leaning into his vision, he changed the company name to Rocky Patel Cigars in 2003. Under this label, he launched the flagship brand Rocky Patel Vintage Cigars and the award-winning Sun Grown Maduro. Other fan-favorite varieties include Fifteenth Anniversary, Java, Royale, Decade, and the Twentieth Anniversary. Each of these offerings was a unique blend created to achieve a specific smoking experience.
