La Flor Dominicana La Volcada takes its name from a move in the tango — a fitting reference for a cigar designed by Litto Gomez, who grew up in Uruguay, where tango is a way of life. Released in December 2017, La Volcada uses a Mexican San Andrés wrapper over an Ecuadorian Corojo binder and Dominican filler from the La Canela farm, producing a full-strength blend that leans toward earthiness and spice rather than sweetness. The Petite version earned a 93-point score from halfwheel and landed #14 on their Top 25 Cigars of the Year list for 2020.

The San Andrés wrapper on La Volcada is notably different from what most smokers expect from the leaf — there's less sweetness, more leather and dark earth. The Ecuadorian Corojo binder, the same tobacco type used in the Andalusian Bull, adds body and a distinctive pepper character that carries through the entire smoke. The Dominican filler from La Canela rounds it out with molasses, dark chocolate, and a mineral quality that develops in the second half.
