Pappy Van Winkle Cigar
First sold as part of the exclusive Pappy & Company collection on pappyco.com, the demand for the Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Fermented Cigar was too much for one shop to hold. As a result, this favorite of cigar and bourbon aficionados worldwide has been made available through a few special partners. As part of the highly popular Van Winkle Family collection, both the Pappy Van Winkle Barrel Cigar and Fermented versions are experiences not to be missed.
This barrel-fermented cigar is filled with long filler and rolled exclusively at Drew Estate's factory in Esteli, Nicaragua. The final product provides a novel flavor with hints of nuts, rich cocoa, and earthy goodness. However, the true difference in this variety comes from the unique barrel-fermented Mexican San Andres wrapper and well-aged Nicaraguan fillers. All leaves are personally selected by Jonathan Drew to ensure top-quality.
Before being used, the “Tapa Negra” wrapper is enhanced using a barrel fermentation process that creates a savory experience. Personally selected leaves are bundled and placed into barrels used to age bourbon. The barrels are then filled with water and high pressure is added using jacks from railroads.
The tobacco is allowed to soak in the flavor for four to six months, before being removed and air dried. They are then repacked into the bourbon barrels to continue soaking. The entire fermentation process lasts 12-18 months for the fullest flavor possible.
