Davidoff Dominicana

The Davidoff Dominicana is a tribute to the country Davidoff has called home since 1990, built almost entirely from Dominican tobacco. The filler comes from a single 2014 harvest, aged six years before blending and another year after rolling. Take the bands off and it doesn't read like a typical white-label Davidoff.

The wrapper is a Dominican hybrid leaf known as the 257. The one outlier is the binder, an Ecuadorian hybrid called the 151. Five Dominican filler tobaccos fill it out: Corojo 99 Seco, Piloto Viso, San Vicente Mejorado Seco, San Vicente Seco and Yamasá Viso. Each cigar is made at the Cigars Davidoff factory in the Dominican Republic.

This is the most concentrated Dominican profile in the lineup. Dry cedar, toasted bread and a clear sense of terroir lead, with white pepper and a perfume-like floral edge on the retrohale. The body builds toward medium-full by the second half, without the heaviness you'd get from a Nicaraguan blend.

The Dominicana is a limited, single-vintage release, which makes it one to smoke while it's in stock. A well-aged Dominican rum is the natural pairing. Reach for it when you want to taste pure Dominican tobacco from the brand that helped define it.
