La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Maduro

La Flor Dominicana Double Ligero Maduro is built around a simple premise: more ligero means more power. Ligero is the tobacco grown at the top of the plant — the leaves that absorb the most sunlight, ferment the longest, and deliver the most strength and flavor. LFD doubles the standard amount in this blend, wraps it in a dark Connecticut Broadleaf maduro leaf, and the result is one of the most intense Dominican cigars on the market.

The Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper is a natural maduro — fermented long to develop a dark, oily surface and the sweetness that defines the style. It adds dark cherry, cocoa, and a creamy texture that keeps the double-ligero strength from going too sharp or bitter. The binder and filler are both Dominican, grown on the Gomez family farms, dense with the earthy, peppery character LFD is known for.

The Digger has its own backstory. A regular customer at an Olde Town Tobacconist in Fredericksburg, Virginia — known as “Digger” — told Litto Gomez that the DL-700 was the best cigar he’d ever smoked, but it was two inches too short. Litto sent him a custom box of 9-inch versions. The demand was enough to make it a production vitola. The Digger at 8½×60 is the biggest expression in the lineup — not a cigar for the unprepared.

Choosing Your Size

DL-600 — The most approachable size in the Maduro lineup. Shorter and narrower, with the same full-strength blend in a more manageable format.

DL-660 — A step up in length, good balance of smoke time and intensity. The blend has more room to develop than the DL-600.

DL-700 (6½×60) — The benchmark size. Most reviewers cite this as the best expression of the blend — long enough to fully develop, wide enough to deliver the full ligero intensity without burning hot.

Chisel — The box-pressed figurado format with LFD’s signature wedge cap. Pinch the cap flat to smoke. Different draw resistance from the parejo sizes — more focused and intense.

Digger (8½×60) — Named after the customer who asked Litto to build it. Eight and a half inches, 60 ring gauge. A 2–3 hour smoke for experienced smokers only. Eat first.
