Frequently Asked Questions
What is the Liga Privada Year of the Rat?
It's a limited annual release in Drew Estate's Liga Privada Unico Serie. Each Unico Serie cigar has its own blend in a single size. The Year of the Rat is a 5 1/2 x 46 Corona Gorda with a fantail cap, hand-wrapped in gold foil, made at La Gran Fabrica Drew Estate in Esteli, Nicaragua.
What does the Liga Privada Year of the Rat taste like?
It leads with black pepper and earth, then moves into leather, cedar, and cocoa with a natural tobacco sweetness underneath. Strength runs medium-full to full and builds as it burns. It's a slow, oily smoke typical of Liga Privada broadleaf.
What is the blend?
A dark, oily Connecticut Broadleaf wrapper over a Brazilian binder, with aged Nicaraguan and Honduran fillers. It was blended in Nicaragua shortly after the original Dirty Rat and shares much of the same DNA.
Where does the name come from?
1996 was the year the Florida Panthers reached the Stanley Cup Final, the year Drew Estate was founded, and the Year of the Rat in the Chinese zodiac. Panthers fans threw rubber rats on the ice after every goal that season. The cigar first launched as a lounge exclusive at the Panthers' arena in 2016.
How big is it and how long does it smoke?
It's a 5 1/2 x 46 Corona Gorda. Figure about an hour, a little longer if you smoke slow.
Does it age well?
Yes. The broadleaf blend has the oils and strength to develop with rest, and because it's a limited annual release, boxes are worth setting aside. Store at 65-70% humidity.
