Macanudo Sumatra

Macanudo Sumatra is the brand's first Ecuadorian Sumatra wrapper in its core portfolio — a darker, more complex expression built on the same platform as their best-selling lineup. It debuted at PCA 2026 in New Orleans and began shipping in April of that year. If you've written off Macanudo as a beginner cigar, this one warrants a second look.

The wrapper is an oily Ecuadorian Sumatra leaf — dark, toothy, and noticeably different from the pale Connecticut that defined Macanudo's reputation. Beneath it, the blend stays consistent with what the brand does well: Dominican Piloto Cubano and Nicaraguan filler, bound with a sturdy U.S. Broadleaf. The construction is box-pressed throughout, which concentrates the draw and slows the burn. Made at STG Estelí in Nicaragua, one of the most consistent factories in the industry.

The first third opens with roasted oak and cocoa — smooth but with more backbone than the classic Macanudo. The middle third adds espresso and a restrained black pepper that builds without getting aggressive. The finish is earthy and slightly sweet, with cedar and roasted nut hanging on. Strength sits at mild to medium throughout. It never pushes hard, but it has character. A well-made cigar that earns the price.

Choosing Your Size

Robusto (5 x 50): A 45-minute smoke. Good starting point if you want to test the blend before committing to a box.

Toro (6 x 50): The size we carry. An hour of smoking, and the extra length gives the flavor time to develop into the finish. Best all-around choice.

Gigante (6 x 60): More ring gauge, slower burn, slightly fuller body. For long sessions.
