Perdomo 30th Anniversary Connecticut — Robusto
Sweet cream, cedar, toasted almond, caramel on the finish. The wrapper sat in bourbon barrels before it ever got rolled, and some of the Nicaraguan filler underneath carries 15 years of age. Box-pressed. If somebody tells you they don't like Connecticut wrappers, this is the cigar that changes their mind. Medium.
ADVentura Blackfin's Parlay — Toro (6 x 54)
Ecuadorian Sumatra over Dominican binder and filler. Sumatra runs sweet and cedary without ever turning sharp, and this one sits right in the pocket. Henderson Ventura grew the binder and filler on ADVentura's own farm, which the company had never done before. Medium, and the easiest smoke in the box.
1916 Tabacalera Eiroa — Belicoso (6 1/2 x 50)
Sweet cedar, cream, baking spice, toasted hazelnut. All Honduran tobacco. Five-year-old habano for the wrapper and binder, corojo and pinareño in the filler. Pinareño is a finicky, low-yield leaf the Eiroa family has spent years bringing back. Santi Eiroa blended this to land between his father's fuller taste and his grandfather's milder one. He nailed it. Medium-full.
AVO Expresivo — Robusto (5 x 52)
Earth first, then dark chocolate and roasted nuts. Spice and a little fruit show up in the last third. This is the first AVO ever rolled outside the Dominican Republic. Davidoff moved production to their Honduran factory, the one that makes Camacho, and you can taste the decision. They rate it 4 out of 5 on intensity. Strongest AVO they've put out.
La Aurora Family Creed Perseverancia — Robusto (5 x 50)
Espresso, cedar, molasses, with a pepper bite off the Broadleaf. Pennsylvania Broadleaf wrapper, Mexican San Andrés binder, filler from Nicaragua and the DR with more Broadleaf worked in. Box-pressed. La Aurora calls it full strength. That company doesn't use the word lightly. The first cigar in this series scored 93 and made Cigar Aficionado's Top 25.
Smoke them in that order. Light to full, nothing gets buried.
