ADVentura's Pirate Saga: Barbarroja's Invasion vs. Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge vs. Blackfin's Parlay

Nate Simonds

ADVentura tells its stories on the box. Lift the lid on Barbarroja's Invasion and a speaker plays a message from the pirate himself. Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge does the same. Two crews, two grudges, two boxes that talk. Blackfin's Parlay is the truce between them, and its box says nothing at all. The war's over.

All three are blended by Henderson Ventura and rolled at ADVentura & McKay's factory in the Dominican Republic. They share the same three sizes. What separates them is the leaf, the strength, and where each one sits in the story. Here's how they line up.

Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge — the grudge

Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge is the crowd-pleaser and one of ADVentura's steadiest sellers. The wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés in the lighter Colorado shade, which pulls the blend toward cream instead of char. You get ground cashew, white pepper, and a sweetness that builds late. Body is medium.

The binder is Dominican Olor, the filler all-Dominican. The tobacco is aged five years before rolling, then rested six more months before it ships. That long rest is why it smokes so smooth out of the box. It was among the first cigars rolled at ADVentura's rebuilt factory, Tabacalera Mina del Rey, when it opened in late 2023. If you're new to the brand, start here.

Barbarroja's Invasion — the invasion

Barbarroja's Invasion is the dark turn in the story. It's named for Hayreddin Barbarossa, the 16th-century Ottoman corsair the Spanish called Redbeard. ADVentura spent two years on the blend, and it shows.

The wrapper is a Mexican San Andrés Oscuro pulled from the highest priming of the plant, where the leaf runs darkest and oiliest. Under it sits a thick Habano binder from ADVentura's own farm, Aromatica. That made Barbarroja the first blend in the portfolio to use their estate harvest. The filler is Dominican and carries medio tiempo, a rare, potent leaf that grows on only a small share of plants, above the ligero. Stack all of that up and you get the boldest smoke of the three: dark chocolate, espresso, earth, and black pepper. Call it medium-full and lean toward full. This is the one for the smoker who wants weight and a long finish.

Blackfin's Parlay — the truce

Blackfin's Parlay is the peace. In the story, it's the parley that ends the war between Barbarroja's crew and Blue Eyed Jack's. It surfaced first in 2025 as a single belicoso in the Captain's Collection sampler with the blend kept secret, then got a refined recipe and a full three-size release in 2026.

Two things set it apart. First, the wrapper. The other two lines use Mexican San Andrés; Blackfin's uses an Ecuadorian Sumatra in a Colorado shade. It reads as cedar, sweet baking spice, a little black pepper, and an earthy base. Second, what's underneath. The binder and filler both come from ADVentura's Aromatica farm. Barbarroja used that farm tobacco for its binder alone. Blackfin's Parlay is the first ADVentura cigar to use it for both. It smokes medium and stays smooth from light to nub. The box, fittingly, is silent. It's the easiest of the three to smoke and the most interesting on paper.

Which one should you smoke?

New to ADVentura, or you just want something creamy and easy? Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge. Want the boldest, darkest smoke in the lineup, with chocolate and espresso and a full finish? Barbarroja's Invasion. Want the newest release, a wrapper that belongs to neither crew, and the full farm-grown blend? Blackfin's Parlay.

Buying all three, smoke them in order. Revenge, then invasion, then truce. The strength climbs from Blue Eyed Jack's to Barbarroja's, then settles back to medium with Blackfin, and the story reads in sequence.

Frequently Asked Questions

Which ADVentura cigar is the strongest?
Barbarroja's Invasion. It runs medium-full and leans toward full, built on a dark San Andrés Oscuro wrapper with rare medio tiempo in the filler. Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge and Blackfin's Parlay both sit at medium.
Which ADVentura is best for a new cigar smoker?
Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge. The lighter San Andrés Colorado wrapper and a six-month rest before shipping make it creamy and smooth out of the box. Blackfin's Parlay is the other easy pick at medium. Save Barbarroja's for when you want more weight.
What is the difference between the three blends?
The wrapper does most of the work. Blue Eyed Jack's uses a lighter San Andrés for cream and cashew, Barbarroja's a dark San Andrés Oscuro for chocolate, espresso, and pepper, and Blackfin's an Ecuadorian Sumatra for cedar, sweet spice, and earth. All three are Dominican underneath, but Blackfin's is the only one with both binder and filler from ADVentura's own farm.
Do the ADVentura boxes really play sound?
Two of them do. Barbarroja's Invasion and Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge have a sound-activated speaker under the lid that plays a message when you open the box. Blackfin's Parlay stays silent, which fits its role as the truce.
Are all three made in the same factory?
Yes. All three are blended by Henderson Ventura and rolled at Tabacalera Mina del Rey, ADVentura & McKay's own factory in the Dominican Republic, built after a 2022 fire destroyed their original facility.
Which ADVentura cigar is the newest?
Blackfin's Parlay. It previewed in 2025 as a single belicoso in the Captain's Collection sampler, then got a refined blend and a full three-size release in 2026. Barbarroja's Invasion launched in 2022, and Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge came before that.
What order should I smoke them in?
Follow the story: Blue Eyed Jack's Revenge, then Barbarroja's Invasion, then Blackfin's Parlay. Strength climbs from medium to medium-full and settles back to medium, so the boldest cigar lands in the middle of the run.
