Summer Outdoor Smoking

Brandon Hayes

As the summer heats up, us cigar enthusiasts eagerly anticipate enjoying their favorite smokes under the warm skies. However, smoking outside can present challenges for the perfect cigar experience. Here are a few things to keep in mind while enjoying your cigars outside this summer!

1. Hydration is Key:

Summer heat can lead to dehydration, which can intensify the effects of nicotine in cigars. Nobody likes being cigar sick! Ensure you stay hydrated before, during, and after your cigar session. Opt for water or sports drinks to keep your body hydrated and minimize the risk of cigar sickness.

2. Be Careful Where You Put Your Cigars When Smoking:

Few things beat a summer afternoon filled with several cigars. However, you need to avoid direct exposure to the sun to reduce the risk drying out your cigars. Most cigar travel humidors are black which can heat up quickly and dry out your smokes. If you are storing your cigars in a plastic bag, direct sunlight will quickly dry out your wrapper which can cause an uneven burn or cracking.

3.  Pay Attention To The Wind:

Summer can mean more time spent on patios and golf courses and with this comes the challenges of smoking in the wind. Smoking in the wind can cause uneven burns and even dry out your cigars. If you do notice an uneven burn, make sure you touch it up with your lighter before in canoes and causes a bitter taste nobody enjoys! Even your favorite smokes can taste bad if they aren't burning properly!

4. Use Proper Lighting Techniques:

High temperatures can impact the burn rate of cigars. When a cigar burns to fast it can create a harsh bitter taste. While jet flame lighters are convenient for lighting cigars in the wind, they can scorch your cigars quickly. Make sure you aren’t touching that flame directly to your cigar!

5. Pace Yourself:

The summer heat can amplify the effects of nicotine, leading to potential discomfort for some smokers. Smoke at a slower pace and take your time between puffs to avoid nicotine overload. Savor the flavors and aroma of your cigar while keeping your body's reaction in mind. If you do get cigar sick, a small bit of sugar will knock that right out.

6. Know The Law:

While we all should be able to enjoy our cigars outside, it is important to pay attention to local legislation. If you are enjoying your cigars in a public area make sure smoking is permitted! It is always good form to be courteous to those around you, but recent legislation around the country can hurt your wallet if you aren’t careful!
